What should I check first?
- Record versions before changing anything. Note the full macOS version and build, the menu bar app version, and whether it is a stable or beta release. Match those details against the vendor's compatibility notes.
- Separate a missing icon from an app that is not running. Open the app that owns the icon and check its menu bar preference. If a manager is hiding icons, use its reveal control before assuming the icon disappeared.
