Tutorial

Use Shelf Mode when the menu bar runs out of room.

Shelf Mode shows tucked icons below the menu bar, which is especially useful on notched MacBooks where horizontal space is interrupted.

1. Open Shelf Mode

Start by confirming Push Mode works. Then open Shelf from Tuck when you want the hidden icons displayed in a panel below the menu bar.

2. Approve Screen Recording if macOS asks

macOS may require Screen Recording when Tuck opens Shelf because Tuck needs to identify menu bar icons accurately. Tuck requests this when opening Shelf without permission, not during the general welcome flow.

3. Use the shelf as a temporary workspace

The shelf is for icons you need occasionally. Keep the top menu bar calm, open Shelf when you need a hidden utility, then return to work.

4. Combine Shelf with rules

For a polished setup, pair Shelf Mode with auto-hide, hover reveal, and per-icon rules. Keep your essentials visible and send background utilities to the shelf.

If permission wording is the blocker, use the Accessibility and Screen Recording explanation.
